Learn about the M16 Rifle and M9 Pistol Qualification process during Plebe Summer
During Plebe Summer, plebes and cadets qualify for their first ribbons and medals in their military careers in Rifle and Pistol.
These ribbons and medals are worn throughout their military careers and Plebe Summer is the first chance and sometimes the only
chance to weapons qualify while at the academies.  These ribbons and medals are what we see worn on many of their uniforms
(like Summer White, Summer Blue, Service Dress Blue).
To learn more go to the Weapons Qualifications page.   Updated for '10

Note:  USNA, USCGA & USMMA Class of '10 appointees wishing to receive rifle and pistol marksmanship fundamentals training
(firearms safety class & live fire with both the AR15 (M16) rifle and 9mm M9 pistol) before Induction day - contact  Rob Amagna  918-492-3862  rob.amagna@tulsaconnect.com.
The purpose of this marksmanship fundamentals training is to familiarize the incoming classes, under the supervision of credentialed firearms coaches,
with safe firearms handling and firing positions.  Live 5.56mm rifle ammunition and 9mm pistol ammunition will be fired at an outdoor rifle and pistol range in Oklahoma.
For some it helps prepare them with their weapons qualification (hopefully qualifying for Sharpshooter and Expert)  and for some it may simply help to calm the jitters of handling and live firing weapons.

Vice-Admiral James Stockdale, a great American war hero was buried at the U.S. Naval Academy on July 26, 2005.   He died at 81 on July fifth at his home in Coronado, California.   Vice-Admiral James Stockdale

He mutilated his own face by slashing it with his razor blade and again beating  himself in the face with a wooden stool to disfigured himself so his North Vietnamese captors could not use him as a propaganda tool on  television.
